Rebuilding Foundations

An exploration of international development work in Africa

Anyone who follows my blog regularly may have noticed that, despite what’s promised in my “Purpose” section, I don’t often write about engineering or my work here.

There are a couple reasons for that.

First of all, engineering is boring.  Have you ever seen a TV show or read a book about engineers?  Probably not.

Second, I don’t enjoy my job and thus don’t want to write about it in case I dissolve into complaints and criticisms.  Even though I have some observations that I think are worth sharing, it would be extremely unprofessional to do so in such a public place.

Third, I spend my work days drafting and staring at spreadsheets.  After dedicating so much time to my project, the last thing I want to do is write about it.

I’m sorry if you’re disappointed.  I’m currently working on a post about pavement, so all you engineer-types can get super hyped for that if you want.

Everyone else can wait for my next bar story.

Deeeeeeeeep Soweto!  Coming soon!
